Legal Framework
Under Section 63 of the National Civil Procedure (Code) Act, 2017, every person filing a plaint, appeal, or counterclaim in a civil matter must pay court fee at the time of filing. The amount is determined by the value of the subject matter or the amount claimed in the suit.
The rate of court fee is not a flat percentage of the total claim. Instead, Nepal follows a progressive slab system under Section 69, where each prescribed rate applies only to the portion of the claim falling within that specific bracket.
Section 63
A plaintiff, appellant, or counter-claimant must pay court fee when filing a plaint, appeal, or counterclaim. The fee is determined by the value or amount claimed in the suit.
Section 69
Court fee is calculated on a progressive slab basis. Each prescribed rate applies only to the portion of the claim amount falling within that specific range—not to the entire claim.
Section 70
Certain matters carry a fixed court fee regardless of the claimed amount. These include divorce, property partition without rights claims, guardianship, and eviction proceedings, among others.
Official Rates
The following rates are prescribed under Section 69 of the National Civil Procedure (Code) Act, 2017. Each rate applies only to the portion of the claim within the stated range.

Alimony, maintenance, and financial claims arising from matrimonial or family disputes (subject to fixed-fee rules where applicable).
Personal injury, medical negligence, defamation, and insurance-related compensation claims.
Exceptions
Section 70 of the National Civil Procedure (Code) Act, 2017 provides that certain matters carry a fixed court fee of Rs. 500 regardless of the claimed amount. This calculator does not apply to those cases.
